Mezcal Spirit of Oaxaca brought a specific regional Mexican kitchen to Centre Street rather than the generic Tex-Mex most beach towns settle for. The name is the thesis: Oaxacan cooking, and a mezcal and cocktail list to go with it.
It sits mid-way up Centre Street, in the run of buildings between the shops and the top of the hill, which makes it one of the easiest dinners to fold into a downtown evening on foot.
What to expect
A regional Mexican menu with a bar programme built around mezcal and tequila. Expect a fuller dinner format than a taqueria — this is a sit-down restaurant on the island's main street.
Weekends fill. Because it is directly on Centre, it catches the walk-by trade all evening, so an early or late table is easier than 7pm on a Saturday.
