Moon River is the island's slice shop: order at the counter, by the slice or by the pie, pull a beer out of the cooler, and eat at a table in a room with no pretensions whatsoever. It has been the local pizza answer on South 14th Street for years.
It is one of the two or three places on Amelia Island where the price of feeding four people does not require thinking about it first.
What to expect
Counter service, slices and whole pies, and a self-serve cooler with a better beer selection than the format suggests. Toppings are chosen at the counter, which means the queue moves at the speed of the person in front of you.
It does a heavy takeaway trade. If you are staying in a rental with a family, a pie collected on the way back from the beach is the single most efficient dinner on the island.
Where it sits, and where to park
925 S 14th Street is on the parallel road east of 8th, about five minutes' drive from downtown and the same from the beach, with free parking.
The island's other pizza option, Coastal Pizza, is a mile further south on the same road.
Quick tips
- By the slice or by the pie โ both work.
- Beer is self-serve from the cooler.
- The most efficient family dinner on the island; takeaway is the norm.
