The Beach Diner on South 8th Street is the island's standard breakfast-and-lunch diner: eggs, pancakes, omelettes, sandwiches, coffee refills, table service, and a room big enough to absorb a Sunday-morning rush.
It matters on this island because the alternative breakfast options are either a coffee shop, a weekend-only brunch room, or a gas station grill that closes at 2pm. If you want a normal breakfast at a normal time with a family, this is the reliable answer.
What to expect
Diner service and diner scale. Weekend mornings run a wait — 9am to 11am on a Saturday or Sunday is the peak — and it moves quickly once you are seated.
It is a better fit for groups and families than any of the downtown breakfast options, both on space and on price.
Where it sits, and where to park
2006 S 8th Street is on the southern half of the main road, with its own parking and no meters. From the beach side it is about five minutes; from downtown, about seven.
