Down Under earns its name: it sits underneath the bridge on the Intracoastal side, off Wade's Place, looking out at the water and the boats. It is one of the island area's longest-standing local seafood rooms and one of the few with a genuine working-waterway view rather than a marina one.
It is a ten-minute drive from downtown and feels considerably further, which is the point.
What to expect
Casual seafood with a bar, a deck, and boat traffic going past. It draws a local crowd and a share of people arriving by water.
Because it sits on the water on the western side, this is the side of the island that gets the sunset — unlike the ocean-facing beach restaurants.
Where it sits, and where to park
96106 Wades Place is off Amelia Island Parkway near the Intracoastal bridge, about ten minutes' drive from downtown, with on-site parking.
Shuckers is the neighbouring restaurant on the same road; both are worth the short drive out of the tourist blocks.
