Timoti's Seafood Shak

Order-at-the-counter local seafood, two blocks off Centre Street

Timoti's is the answer to the most common dining question in Fernandina Beach: where can we get good local seafood without a wait, a dress code, or a $40 entrée? You order at the counter on North 3rd Street, take a number, and eat at picnic-style seating inside or out.

It is a block off Centre Street, which puts it inside easy walking distance of the shops, the museum and the marina — and far enough off the main drag that the queue moves faster than the waterfront rooms two blocks away.

What to expect

Counter service, paper and baskets, seafood cooked to order. The format is built around fish tacos, shrimp, and fried or grilled baskets — the kind of menu where the fried and the grilled versions of the same thing cost about the same and the grilled is the one locals order at lunch.

Because it is counter service, it works when a beach day has run long and nobody wants to change clothes. It also works for families: kids can eat within ten minutes of walking in, which is not true of most of downtown.

Where it sits, and where to park

21 N 3rd Street is one block north of Centre and one block east of the marina end of downtown. Third Street parking is metered in the downtown program — the same rules as the rest of the district, covered in our parking guide.

From here it is a short walk to the Amelia Island Museum of History, the Centre Street shops, and Mocama on North 3rd.

Who it suits

Families, beach days, anyone eating between activities, and anyone who wants the local catch without the sit-down time. If you want the same food with a water view and table service, the waterfront rooms are two blocks west.

It is also the most reliable lunch stop on this side of downtown — see the rest of our lunch picks.

Quick tips

  • Order at the counter; grab a table first if you're a group.
  • Grilled and fried cost about the same — locals order grilled at lunch.
  • Easiest sand-and-salt-friendly meal downtown after a beach morning.
